17. If the first appeal is lost, what is the next step (not including a post-decision motion, such as a motion for rehearing)?

If there is a written Opinion, the next step would be to seek review in the Florida Supreme Court or the U.S. Supreme Court. If there is no written Opinion, then in Florida, by Florida law, there is basically no means to obtain further Florida Supreme Court review. In the federal system, by contrast, there are potential means to obtain review of a lower federal court decision, but they are complicated and much too involved to discuss in a simple FAQ. The best solution is to consult with an experienced appellate expert attorney who handles federal appeals.
